An estimated 11.3 million tons of textile waste end up in U.S. landfills annually.

This is largely in part due to fashion brands over producing to keep up with the endless cycle of fast fashion trends. This, in turn, causes impulse purchases, over consumption, and ultimately more waste from the brand and consumer.

But we can make a difference...

Fabrics

Each article I produce is made of hand selected textiles procured from various overstock and salvage retailers. A few local to the Philadelphia and NYC area that I source from are below:

Limited Availability - Because I am sourcing salvaged textiles, the fabric is not available in abundant yardage. This makes each item I make limited edition and unique.

At Mech, I pride myself on using only deadstock, recycled, and repurposed textiles. In sourcing these, sometimes materials are not labeled with their components. If this is the case, I make the assumption to my best knowledge based on how the fabric tests to the below measures:

- Visual Inspection

- Burn Test

- Texture

- Fibre Weave

- Fabric Weight

- Elasticity
